Just found out about Ian’s passing about 15 minutes ago. This one was tough. Ian and I swam and played water polo together for four years. A great competitor and really fun to be around. With him, you always knew something was going to happen.
Coincidentally, during my freshman year at UC Irvine, one day I was in my dorm living room looking out the window at all the construction going on building new dorms. I’m looking at the guy driving one of the heavy pieces of equipment, and he looks really familiar. So I go outside and yell at him. He couldn’t hear me over the noise of the machinery but he saw me and broke out into a big shit-eating grin and yelled back, “Kearns, what the heck are you doing here?” Last time I saw him.
”He coached little league, enjoyed playing softball for a number of years, was a great carpenter; would build you whatever you wanted; drove long haul and ended up in Arizona where he enjoyed relaxing when not driving.”
Dave, so sorry to hear about Ian and the loss for you of a friend. Being such a painfully shy girl in school, I will always remember how friendly and nice he was to me.
I am very sorry to hear of Ian's passing. We went to grammer school and played little league together. Ian was a very good south paw pitcher. When I saw him at I think our 20 year reunion he told me he had made it to AA ball before hurting his arm. He was a good team mate and friend. Rest in peace old friend.
